Paulette Hughes is an accidental hairstylist. (Also, a nerd.) Her hair affair began sneakily enough when she was a child – chopping off her Barbie dolls’ hair, and curling and teasing her aunts’ tresses while they gossiped about their favorite soap operas on hot summer afternoons. While taking a break from her English and Creative Writing studies at SMSU, she decided on a whim to go to Cosmetology school along with her mother. It proved to be a life-changing decision, and she fell in love with the art of hairstyling – maybe even more than books (gasp!), and has never looked back.

18 years later, she is still in love with her career.  Known for her skill with cutting curly hair and special occasion and retro hairstyles, she is adept at creating sculpture with the hair – transforming your strands into walking works of art. Also a creative colorist, she enjoys painting a canvas within your tresses.  From subtle sunset ombres to bursts of pop-art neon, she will help you express your inner personality to the world.  During the consultation, she will take your lifestyle, hair texture, and personal style identity into consideration.  She’s known for her listening ability, and has a loyal clientele of varying ages.

Paulette is also an avid blogger and professional photographer, and enjoys thinking of new ways to express herself creatively. You can see her writings here on the Alchemy Blog, as well as at Flyover Life + Style. She is a contributing writer to Lucky Magazine online, and enjoys all aspects of fashion, especially vintage! She is happily married to her geeky Prince Charming, and has a blonde wild child with more spunk than a character in a Beverly Cleary novel.  She also loves cats, freckles, and New Orleans.
